Discovering Touristy Areas For Weekend Getaways AZ

By Jason Hill

When it comes to the Southwest area of the United States, individuals can experience some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. In fact, the dramatic canyons and cliffs of Arizona are often considered some of the most beautiful and pristine areas. In fact, there are a number of tourist areas which play host to fun Weekend Getaways AZ.

While Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson are the most well known cities in Arizona, the lesser known towns and villages are often quite entertaining. Whether visiting Bisbee, Flagstaff, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Jerome or Lake Havasu, all have something special to offer residents and tourists alike. In most cases, a long weekend is plenty enough time to experience all any of these areas have to offer.

When it comes to Sedona, it is rumored to be a spiritual hot spot with regards to healing. As such, there are a number of holistic professionals living and providing services in the area. Whether getting a hot stone massage, soaking in a hot mineral spring or getting a full treatment at a local resort and spa, Sedona has a lot to offer. In addition the area is surrounded by breathtaking cliffs which tend to glimmer and shine at sunset and dawn.

Lake Powell on the other hand is located on the border of Utah and Arizona. The lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the southwest by locals and tourists. As a result, it can be extremely busy during Spring and Summer months. As such, if planning on camping in the area, it is advised that reservations be made well in advance.

The quaint mountain town of Flagstaff is a favorite among the more liberal and laid back class of visitor. The area has recently been going through somewhat of a redevelopment process with more upper scale stores and restaurants moving into the area. While this is the case, many of the locally owned artist galleries, businesses and restaurants are still worth a trip to the downtown area which also host one of the most beautiful and quaint Amtrak stations in the country.

Art enthusiasts will most likely love the little hamlet of Bisbee. An active artist colony, artists can be found working out of small homes, storefronts or, in some cases, art buses on a daily basis. In addition, the Copper Queen Hotel, a favorite of John Wayne remains open and operating in the area.

Anyone whom has ever played London Bridge might find Lake Havasu quite interesting. For the original bridge is located over the lake. The bridge was transported from London to Lake Havasu piece by piece in the mid-late 1960s. After which, it became a popular tourist attraction and still holds a great deal of interest for visitors.

Jerome, a town even lesser known than Bisbee is a small village located in the Black Hills county of Yavapai. The town offers scenic views, narrow alleyways and a history of ghostly apparitions. In addition, there are a number of locally owned eateries and shops. After an afternoon of lunch and shopping, many residents and tourists like to tour the various old buildings and notable hotels in which ghosts of the old west are rumored to haunt the establishments on a regular basis.
