Useful Tips For Planning A Safari In Tanzania

By Betty Ward

You must have heard people talking about their bucket lists and in it a trip to one of the African countries often features. Maybe you also have plans to make a tour in that destination. Well, this could be one of the daunting trips you have ever planned for. To begin with, a safari in Tanzania or any other African country is not cheap. But there are ways to cut costs.

First off, it is said that failing to plan is like planning to fail. Therefore, you must just begin with creating your exclusive itinerary, one that will encapsulate all the activities you want to involve yourself in. This will give you a better perspective of any other aspects important to that tour that you are likely to forget. As a result, you will end up with an independent tour.

The destinations you want to visit while in that African country should also make an important part of your plan. Getting to know the various means of transport to those sites will help you better plan for your finances. Yet again, most African countries have organized tours for tourists like you. When you go through those tours, you are likely to spend less than you would have spent doing it yourself.

Transport is one of the most complicated items you have to ponder before departing for Africa. Maybe you have been looking forward to cruising the wild with a 4X4 vehicle. But when your budget limits this kind of expenditure, there are other avenues you could use. Talk to one of the tour planners in that country and see if they have organized any activities that will take care of transport costs.

It is not always true that touring an African country requires a lot of cash. You can still have the greatest time in that country with the budget you had set aside. But you have to sacrifice the luxuries of staying at five star hotels or eating around the sites you are touring. That will run you bankrupt. With so many affordable restaurants offering local and other ethnic cuisines from different nations, you can still eat well.

Time is another factor you do not want to forget. When to visit Africa is another important consideration you do not want to leave out of your plans. This timing can either make or break your tip. The period between May and August is ideal for viewing the Big 5 like elephants, lions and leopards among others.

When it comes to packing, do not jam your suitcase with things meant for every situation imaginable. Besides the luggage restrictions with most airlines, you will be making the cost for your flight increase even further. Disembarking after a long journey does not require too heavy luggage. Moving with it to your accommodation might also increase transportation costs significantly.

You can always choose to travel with a light suitcase, or just a backpack like the one used by hikers. Figure out what to carry with you. For footwear, do not bring heavy boots. Moving light will make the experience more enjoyable.
