The Most Popular Jaco Costa Rica Excursions

By Mary Roberts

Going on vacation, especially with family and friends, is one of the best things that you can look forward to all year. This is especially true if you choose a beach destination. Imagine leaving the harsh winter weather and going somewhere sunny, like Costa Rica, for example. It is the trip of a lifetime, and you can experience it fully by going on some Jaco Costa Rica Excursions.

Playa Jaco, as the area is officially called, is near the large city of San Jose. It is a long beach that encompasses 2.5 miles of coastline, and is home to lots of jungle areas as well. When you come here, you get the best of several worlds all rolled up into one.

Some people love adventure type excursions, and there are certainly plenty of those available. However, if your family would much rather relax, then you can simply do what is called a beach day excursion. You can get food and drink from the locals, and then sit on in the sand and just read or build castles. Wade into the water with a snorkel, or try surfing on for size since the wave in the area are legendary.

For a nice mix of both adventure-like tours and a more relaxing pace, you can book one of several jungle tours. These take you deep into the Costa Rican jungles with its lushness and green beauty full of wildlife like spider monkeys that you will want to snap pictures of. You will be fed and kept well hydrated as you hike or drive by gorgeous, picturesque waterfalls that look like they are from a tourist brochure in a movie.

If you would prefer to see the local scenery from above rather than on land, then book a zipline tour. These let you get a birdseye view of the jungles and coastline all at once. If you are not quite that daring or do not want to do it solo, you can instead book an aerial tram, which is like a small train car in the sky that can take several people at once.

There is a long history of using horses as transportation in Costa Rica, and you can experience a horseback ride on the beach of through the jungle by booking this type of excursion. The rides are of varying lengths, and open to all experience levels, even those who have never ridden a horse. Your guides are happy to help you learn the ropes so you can enjoy this relaxing ride.

The beach is great, but if you would rather go out into the deeper parts of the water, then consider taking a boating trip. Catamarans and sailboats let you take a slow, deliberately-paced stroll through the water, or go for a speed boat for rip-roaring, fast-paced fun instead.

There is a nearby National Park known as Manuel Antonio that many tourists will tell you is a must-see area. It has gorgeous fauna, lots of sloths and spider monkeys to see, and plenty of picnic spots to enjoy a meal and some local brews before hiking through the jungle.
