How To Start Your Own Senior Travel Blog

By Shirley Sanders

You have now reached the age for retirement. You are now living a relaxing and calming life. You even started to visit places and countries with your spouse, too. Every moment is captured in photos and stored in your laptop. You saw your friend posting his interests in his website. After asking him why he does that, it makes you want to start your own senior travel blog, too.

Blogs are similar to journals but posted online. It is a place where anyone can write about their passion and interests on the web. There are many sites that can support and host your blog. WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr are some of the platforms you can choose from. They have basic settings and features in their sites that are simple and easy to navigate.

The first step is to think of a blog name. A combination of your names with your spouse may do so everyone can know who you are. A phrase that you have heard from the locals may also be a perfect candidate. There are no limits in your choices. Silly names may even do if you so choose.

The rest of the information that the blog will get from you will be easy. You just have to provide them that certain information such as username and password. After that, pick any theme you want. It is important that you know that these blogging platforms are free, unless you want to do a self hosting site.

These sites have their own backgrounds and themes in their disposal. Choose one that reflect your character and taste best. Usually, skewed shapes and many colors attract those with bubbly and jolly personalities. Meanwhile, coordinated design and style are the choice of calm and sophisticated people. If you want, you may create a theme from scratch.

You should also note that the theme must be appropriate for your planned blog planning. It must be able to capture the attention and interest of the potential readers. The moment they see it, they are able to comprehend what type of blog you will have.

When all that is finished, you are now ready to start writing your first content. It is not necessary for words to fill its spaces. Pictures can transmit what you want to communicate. You only have to add captions on them so readers know what you did and where it was held.

Your readers might plan to go to that destination someday so including your own recommendations might not be remiss. Put in there what sites to see and what activities they can do. Describe the things you did so they can know your experiences of the place.

If you are still in doubt as to how you will develop the contents, you may look into other travel blogs so you can have an idea on how they did theirs. Senior Nomads, Adventures of Empty Nesters, and Contented Traveller are some of the blogs you can visit and enjoy reading. All three are created by retired senior professionals like you.
