Should You Visit New Zealand?

By David Francis

There are many reasons to consider traveling around New Zealand and apart from the great scenery, food, wine, lakes, forests, you will also have the local people of New Zealand or 'Kiwis' as they like to be called. They are very friendly people and welcome tourists to their two beautiful islands as if they were from their own family. Kiwi hospitality is world renowned for a warm welcome, good food and cosy surrounding. You will always have a good time when you are in the company of local New Zealand hosts and this will make your stay even more enjoyable.

New Zealanders make use of their rugged and beautiful country and live an outdoors life. Most of them are into hiking, skiing, swimming, trekking, boat trips and jumping off high bridges to get kicks! The open wilderness make New Zealand a great country to do these activities.

Maori culture shines through in New Zealands history. The Maori people who came across from the Polynesian islands in giant canoes have a rich and steep culture in New Zealand. They have many sacred sights throughout the country, none more so than Cape Renga in the north island where traditional beliefs say that that is where the souls of fallen warriors go back into the ocean to the islands where they came from.

Boutique bakeries and coffee shops are hidden away for tourists to seek out and explore in the city streets. Resorts have secret lodges with fine dining and private chefs. New Zealand cuisine is alive and wonderful. There are many great wineries in the Otago and Canterbury regions which are world renowned for their elegance and taste. Places like Auckland and Wellington have Michelin Star restaurants and a chic cafe vibe.

Getting around in New Zealand is easy as the roads are of the highest quality and this makes driving around in a car or campervan a breeze. The long winding corners and dramatic mountain passes make driving around New Zealand a great experience. You can rent a campervan or motorhome at any of the airports or in one of the cities once you get there. This gives you the freedom to go where you want and not rely on scheduled transport options.

Alternatively you could jump on a bus by one of the many tourism operators, or stick out your thumb and hitch a ride! This is a very common practice throughout the country, thanks to the friendly people you should not be waiting to long for a lift. Hitchhiking is quite a popular way for people to get around especially backpackers.
